Letter: What's wrong with gay parents?

In "On adoptions by gay couples" (Your Views, May 30), the letter writer states "in the future, for the sake of the children, we should not allow 'gay life partners' or any other non-married people to raise adoptive children."

What's scary is that an adoptive parent made that statement. Adam and Madison were originally taken in as foster children. Jon and Michael knew when they took these drug-addicted, HIV-positive children into their home that they might have been returned to their birth parents - the people who originally put these children's lives in danger. Jon and Michael nursed these children back to health, giving medication and loving comfort through all hours of the day and night. Neither child is addicted to drugs or is HIV-positive any longer.

What does the Your Views correspondent want these two gentlemen to do? Allow our shelters and institutions to fill up with children who wouldn't be adopted or cared for if not for the thousands of gay life partners or other non-married people out there doing it every day?

What's so wrong about gay life partners or non-married people caring for our children? Jon and Michael's motives are simple: Help these kids now, and give them a chance
