Utah Scapegoating Children
Date: January 23, 1999

To the editor,

We are saddened by the Division of Children and Family Services decision to ban qualified homosexual couples from foster and adoption programs in Utah, although not surprised.

The radical religious right has targeted homosexuals in a culture war based on misinformation and unscientific data and to many it may now appear that they have won their battle in Utah, wrong! Homosexuals will continue to exercise their God given right to create loving families. Private adoption, International adoption, surrogacy and artificial insemination will continue to be viable options for homosexuals to build their families.

So who is Scott F. Clark and the Board of Children and Family Services really hurting? The answer is simple, the most vulnerable citizens of all, the needy children in the state's custody. Already there are not enough preadoptive homes for all the children in need.

In their efforts to win popularity and votes these precious needy children have been scapegoated. Luckily we live in a country with a constitution that protects its individuals from states creating separate classes of its citizens. Their decision will be remedied by our constitution but until then may God bless and protect the children of Utah and America.
